FAQS

Strong Lock DIY retaining walls offer an unbeatable price. Contact our team to discuss your requirements and find a cost-effective solution.

Constructing a DIY retaining wall offers several benefits. It prevents soil erosion, especially in regions with heavy rainfall and high winds. It creates a usable flat space on sloped areas, expanding your property’s functionality. Retaining walls enhances landscaping aesthetics, adding visual appeal to your outdoor space. Additionally, they can increase property value and provide a long-lasting solution to soil stability issues.

A DIY modular retaining wall holds back soil and prevents erosion on sloped terrain. It consists of pre-made posts and panels, interlocking to create a stable wall.

Start by placing a star picket at either end of the wall and attach a string line, ensuring it is taut, lengths over 20 meters will require another star picket placed in the middle to stop the line from sagging.

Place a 1200mm long spirit level on the ground with one end at the centre of where the first post will go. Mark the ground at each end and move it along, which are the marks for the holes at 1200mm centres.

When digging the holes, the base must be square in a U shape instead of a V.

Dig the holes about 100mm deeper than required, you can always raise the post to the line, but if it’s too high, you’ll need to lift it out.

Install the posts with a slight lean back towards the high side, working on half a bubble on the spirit level.

On the same level, mark it with a hacksaw or permanent marker at 1130mm and use this to measure between the internal slots of the posts, the panels are 1120, making for a good fit.

Install all the posts, then go back and fill the holes with cement. It’s a good idea to mark the posts down to where the bottom panel will sit to see when you have filled with enough cement. Once the holes are filled, go back and check the 1130 marking.

For all the posts you get done that day, install the panels the next day, if any of the footings are too high, you can easily remove the excess.

Installing panels the same day you concrete the posts will push the posts out of alignment.

Start the panels off higher than ground level and dig them down to suit.
